As kids, we used to catch the John Wayne Western re-runs on AMC every Saturday morning. No matter what, with a lightning-quick pistol draw and twinkle in his eye, he always took care of the bad guys. Looking back now, I can better appreciate John Wayne as the on-screen representation of American grit and independence.
